SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A surveillance video shows a Fullerton, Calif., police officer snap on latex gloves and threaten to take on a mentally ill homeless man before he and others pinned him down and shocked him with a stun gun in a confrontation that prosecutors say killed him.
The video accompanied by audio from digital recorders worn by officers was shown Monday in a preliminary hearing to determine if two officers will stand trial.
On the recording, Kelly Thomas groans that he's sorry and can't breathe, and pleads for help as officers lean on top of him.
Parts of the grainy nighttime video are unclear and there is background noise from dispatchers and Fullerton's transit hub.
The video ends with medics taking Thomas away on a board, a large bloodstain left in his place.
