Some local volunteers are gearing up for next year's tax season.
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program helps low to moderate-income households with tax services to make sure they receive tax credits and reductions.
The program is free and aims to help people 60 years of age and older.
In Santa Maria, during 2013, volunteers prepared more than 750 federal tax returns for local residents and their families.
The program returns to the Santa Maria area in 2014 starting February 1 through April 15. Volunteers will work Saturdays and Mondays at the Westgate town hall, Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic School gym, and the Oasis Senior Center in Orcutt.
