The United Way of Northern Santa Barbara County is looking for volunteers to help low income families file their taxes.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program offers free tax preparation for families making less than 49,000 dollars.

Cal Poly and Hancock College partner with the United Way to provide the free service. The IRS trains and certifies the volunteers.

Program volunteers prepared over 1,300 returns last year.
