Volunteers are still needed for the sixth Serve Santa Maria event.
They're meeting up at the Abel Maldonado Center Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m., the volunteers will go off to dozens of different sites to work on community service projects throughout the city.
There will be repair work on 20 mobile homes and five city parks, as well as trash cleanup and home renovation projects for people who have been hit hard by the bad economy.
"I wish everyone could meet some of these people who are on the receiving end. As I've done this over the years, some of them sometimes are almost in tears. They can't believe that we're doing this for free for them. It's a wonderful thing," said Pastor Carl Nielsen, representing the Churches of Santa Maria.
If you decide to volunteer Saturday, organizers ask that you bring your own yard equipment.
The next Serve Santa Maria event is already scheduled on April 13th.
