Cameron Walker scored a game-high 33 points and wowed the fans with a couple of slam dunks as the Righetti basketball team withstood a second half comeback to beat Atascadero 68-60 in a Pac 7 League battle on Wednesday. The Warriors stayed perfect in league play at 5-0, while the Greyhounds dropped to 3-2.
The Warriors led by 12 points at the half behind 24 points from the sophomore Walker.. The Righetti defense held Atascadero's star junior point guard Robbie Berwick scoreless in the first half.
With several coaches from Division I program in the stands, including ones from UCSB, Cal Poly, Pepperdine and Stanford, the Greyhounds mounted a serious comeback in the third quarter. A three-pointer from Joe Johnson gave the Hounds a five point lead. Atascadero held a two point lead after the third quarter. Johnson, a junior, scored 12 of his team-best 16 points in the third quarter.
Righetti quickly took control of the game in the fourth quarter. Romana Magana hit a 3-pointer to give the Warriors the lead for good. Marcus Mc Morris added some key buckets as did Walker. McMorris finished with 16 points and Magana tallied 9 in the victory.
Jared Studeman added 12 points and 4 assists for the Greyhounds, Ryan O'Connell scored 11 and Joel Wood finished with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Berwick was limited to six points.
