Warm and dry start to 2014

Haze and fog along the coast will cool temperatures at the beaches today. The offshore flow should keep the haze and fog at the beach, but tonight, visibility should improve. A long period west swell will bring an increased risk of rip currents to San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County beaches through tonight. The New Year kicks off to a warm and dry start which will continue into next week as high pressure remains in place over the eastern Pacific Ocean. This, plus a weak offshore flow, will have the warm and dry conditions linger. Winds should remain below advisory levels into next week. The warmest daytime high temperatures are forecasted to be in the 70's. Gusty northerly winds are expected Saturday night and Sunday night.
