The San Luis Obispo City biologist is warning residents about a recent bear sighting near a popular local trailhead.
Freddy Otte says a report of three black bears came in Wednesday from the Patricia Street Trailhead for the Bishop Peak Natural Reserve.
Otte says if you see a bear or wild animal in the city limits, make as much noise as possible and do not attempt to approach the animal, just let them move on.
If you are hiking in a group, Otte suggests you band together to look more intimidating. Do not throw anything at the animals, Otte says.
If you see a bear, you're asked to call the California Department of Fish and Game and your local police department.
