Warning for seniors on Census scams

A warning for seniors when it comes to increased scams at Census time. The Area Agency on Aging wants the elderly to be aware that's a time scammers tend to target them.

The agency stressed it's important to fill out the information because Census data directly impacts services for senior citizens. It determines how much funding is received. However, the agency said seniors need to ask census workers for identification.

Aaron Pankratz, Area Agency on Aging, said, "Anytime someone asks you to enter your home, that's a big red flag. They're trained to not do that. In fact, it's a violation of their policies to enter the home for any reason even when invited."

To avoid a Census worker coming to your home, seniors can send in their census information. If the information is sent, and a worker comes to your home. The agency said that's another red flag. For more information on the Area Agency on Aging go to http://www.centralcoastseniors.org/.
