Arrest warrants have been issued for Aaron Marquis and Anja Marquis of Advanced Hearing Aid Center in San Luis Obispo.
KSBY broke the story last year about accusations a hearing aid dispenser was advertising and acting as an audiologist without the proper credentials.
Aaron Marquis and his wife are both charged with grand theft and fraud and were due in court Monday morning, but they didn't show up.
They were arraigned in August. On Monday, the District Attorney looked to add eleven additional grand theft charges against and asked a judge to increase their bail amounts.
Court documents show Marquis and his wife knowingly misled patients into believing he was an audiologist. Court documents also allege the two charged some of their patient's insurance companies for procedures they didn't perform.
At their arraignment in August, Aaron Marquis's bail was set at $100,000 and his wife's was set at $50,000. On Monday, a judge agreed to increase those bail amounts to $1 million each.
KSBY has continually reached out to Mr. Marquis both at Advanced Hearing Aid Center and his home for comment, but they continue to refuse. We also reached out to their attorney, Trevor Creel, on Monday, but he had not returned our phone call in time for broadcast.
According to court documents, a restraining order was also upheld, freezing the couple's financial assets.
Aaron and Anja Marquis are due back in court on October 28 for a pre-preliminary hearing.
