The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to New Cuyama on Sunday after a 30-foot sinkhole was reported in the 200 block of Wasioja Road.

It happened around 1:40 p.m.

Officials say no one was injured, and it did not hurt any structures, but the kiddie pool at the Joseph Centeno Aquatics Complex was affected.

Officials believe the sinkhole was caused by a leak or break in a water line in the area.

They say the sinkhole is not affecting traffic on Highway 166, but Wasioja Road, between Morales Street and Escuela Street, will be closed during the on-going repair project.

Officials do not know when the road will re-open, or when the sinkhole will be repaired.
