Coastal valley highs will be near 80 and beaches near 70 on New Year's Day. Normal highs are in the low to mid 60s for the coastal areas and only upper 50s inland so it is remarkable, and near records. While we may lose a degree or two, the warm temps linger thru the weekend.
The reason is high pressure along with light offshore flow will continue through the week with occasional high clouds. The offshore winds will be strongest on Wednesday and over the weekend.
Looking at long term models which take us into the middle of January there is not much to get optimistic about, in fact there is almost nothing to even ponder.
The latest runs show high pressure dominating the west coast. If we don't get going soon this could turn into the winter that never was.
