Leading up to the first day of school at Cal Poly last year the San Luis Obispo Police Department and Cal Poly Police were kept busy by Poly students that were misbehaving after a few drinks. Week of Welcome festivities kicked off Wednesday night at the university with the first day of class on Monday. A concerted effort is being made by the school to keep Cal Poly students off the police blotter.
Cal Poly administration changed the move in day for students this year, a free weekend was cut out by not allowing people into dorms until this past monday. WOW festivities will run from Wednesday through Sunday with drug and alcohol free events planned all day everyday. "We are encouraging our leaders to keep their wowies out until 11:00 p.m. Midnight and even 1:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights to keep them safe and sober" says Cal Poly senior Mikey Hawkins who helped plan the Week of Welcome.
he San Luis Obispo Police Department is hoping to prevent community disturbances this school year with increased fines. After a warning, the first noise ordinance citation will cost $350, a second violation will be $700 fine. It will be $700 for an unruly gathering citation.
