A weekend hospital stay is linked to an increased risk of death.
Previous research has shown patients who arrive on the weekend have higher death rates, but researchers wanted to see if patients admitted earlier in the week had the same risks.
Data from more than 300,000 people revealed no matter when they were admitted, the risk of death increased by five percent on Fridays and seven percent on Saturdays and Sundays.
Experts say the findings suggest there is a lower quality of care on the weekends and it needs to be addressed.
