New research suggests your diet can determine how long and how well you live in older age.
A study of British adults found eating a so-called Western diet, with lots of fried, fatty and sugary foods, raised the risk of premature cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular death.
Those who did live into old age were more likely to develop chronic diseases and have limited functionality; however, people who stuck with a healthier way of eating greatly improved their chances of living longer and achieving old age with high function and free of disease.
