Arroyo Grande High senior Eli Whittle and the doubles team from San Luis Obispo High of Josh Milla and Mason Hansen advanced in the CIF Individual Regionals in Carpinteria on Thursday.
Whittle received a bye in the first round. He beat a player from Buckley 6-0, 6-0 in the second round and topped Gabriel Rappaport from Malibu in the third round 7-6 (5) and 6-3. The Brown recruit qualifies for either next Thursday's round of 32 at Whittier Narrows or goes directly to the Round of 16 in Seal Beach next Friday. Whittle, a four-time Pac 7 League champion, improved to 68-2 overall this season.
Arroyo Grande senior Sean Hollister won his first round singles match 6-0, 6-0 over a player from Camarillo High. However, he lost to Graham Maasen of Santa Barbara High in the second round 6-3, 6-2. Hollister, who's committed to play at UC Santa Cruz next year, finished his season 69-8 and a four year varsity career at 224-34.
Hansen and Milla also advanced to next week's tournament. The two Tigers, who teamed up to win the Pac 7 Doubles title, beat a Valencia team in the second round 6-4, 6-3. They went on to beat a team from Santa Barbara High 5-7, 6-3 and 10-5 in the next round.
Cole Laughton and Derek Lakowske, who represented the Pac 7 as the #2 doubles team, received a bye in the first round. The Arroyo Grande High Eagles won their second round match against an Oxnard team 6-2, 6-1. However, the lost to Mitchell Kuhn and Jack Damen of Santa Barbara High 7-6 (5) and 6-2. Kuhn and Damen won the Channel League doubles title.
