Three Eagles scored 18 points or more as the Arroyo Grande High boys basketball opened its 40th annual Taro Kobara Tournament with an 83-61 win over Hoover on Thursday night.
Arroyo Grande improved to 6-1 on the season.
Matt Willkomm led all scorers with 30 points, including 5 three-pointers. Brennan Rivera and Cobe Williams added 18 points apiece for AG. Willkomm and Williams had 6 assists each. Rivera had 5 assists and 7 rebounds. Quillan Smith had 9 points and 8 rebounds.
The Eagles made 10 three-pointers on the night. Arroyo Grande stormed out of the gates to take a 31-12 lead after the first quarter and led 49-21 at halftime.
The Eagles continue pool play on Friday against Mission at 8pm. They play Paso Robles at 10:30 am on Saturday before games for placing start in the early evening.
The Atascadero boys were outscored 15-9 in the fourth quarter and lost their opener 56-49 to Thousand Oaks. Joe Johnson led the Greyhounds with 13 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. Brady Youngquist added 10 points and 7 rebounds. The Hounds closed to within 41-40 after three quarters, but could not pull ahead in the final eight minutes. Dakota Pierce led Thousand Oaks with 23 points.
