It's a fun event that's helping a good cause. The 2nd Annual "Wine 4 Paws" is taking place this weekend. It's meant to raise funds and awareness for the Woods Humane Society. Sarah Tomasetti, "Wine 4 Paws," said, "It has a big challenge with overpopulation." There are numerous animals on the Central Coast in need of a home. As the need grows, so does the cost to operate the facility. In fact, the humane society is seeing a 20-percent growth in all aspects of the shelter on a yearly basis.

More than 50 wineries in San Luis Obispo County have joined the effort to help. Tomasetti said, "I knew the wineries in the area are pet friendly. You can go into just about any winery and find a winery cat or dog running around. So, we just thought it was a natural mix to put the two together." The wineries will be donating either a percentage of their sales or tasting fees. Among those participating, Saucelito Canyon. Correne Weaver, Saucelito Canyon, said, "We want it to be a big weekend. We want to be able to write a big, nice check for Woods and give back." Tomasetti said, "There's a lot of animal lovers in this area and a lot of animal lovers also love wine. They can go out and taste wine, buy wine and support Woods at the same time."

Last year, "Wine 4 Paws" raised $6,000. Organizers are hoping this year will be even bigger and better. The event has grown quite a bit in its two years, last year 35 wineries took part in the fundraiser. This year, there's a total of 53 San Luis Obispo County wineries participating. "Wine 4 Paws" will be taking place April 10th and 11th. There will also be a "Wine 4 Paws" raffle that has some great prizes. For more information go to http://www.wine4paws.com/.
