Tim Wise drove in four runs, including three on his first home run of the season, to lead Cal Poly baseball to a 7-1 win over Pacific on Friday night at Baggett Stadium. The Mustangs improved to 7-6 in Big West Conference play and 23-17 overall.
Joey Wagman allowed one run and five hits in 8 brilliant innings. The righthander improved to 6-3 on the season.
Wise clubbed a three-run home run to seal the game as part of a four run seventh inning. It was the sophomore designated hitter's third career home run, all three have come against Pacific.
Cal Poly came into the series opener having lost six of its last nine games and had played eight of its last nine on the road.
Pacific fell to 11-29 overall and 1-9. Cal Poly has won 12 straight series against the Tigers.
Wise added an RBI single in the fifth inning to join Mitch Haniger and Jimmy Allen with two hits apiece as the Mustangs outhit Pacific 8-6. Haniger's hits were both doubles.
Allen singled to drive in Cal Poly's final run in the seventh inning and Mike Miller grounded out to knock in a run in the third inning.
The second game of the series will be played Saturday night at 6 pm. The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
