The Santa Maria Police Department says a woman is in jail after breaking into a church, and setting a fire early Thursday morning.

Police say 24 year old Amanda Ruiz broke into St. John Neumann Church on West Orchard.

When fire crews and police arrived, they found a shattered window and smoke coming from inside the church.

They say Ruiz was inside the church playing the piano. Police and fire crews believe Ruiz set the fire intentionally.

Fire crews put out the fire, that caused extensive damage to the inside of the church.

Police tell us they found drugs inside as well.

The investigation is on-going, and police ask if you have any information to call them.
