PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities and relatives say a Northern California woman died and two of her sisters were critically injured when they were thrown from their SUV following an early morning Black Friday shopping trip.
The three women were with their parents and another sister when the vehicle crashed into a California Highway Patrol car and flipped over on Highway 101 in Palo Alto early Thursday.
CHP officials say it's not clear what caused the SUV to drift off the freeway and into the back of the patrol car, which was pulled over to help a motorist.
The woman who died was a 24-year-old San Bruno resident. Her name has not been released.
Relatives tell the San Jose Mercury News (http://bit.ly/R6KZv5 ) that she was expecting to get married in India next year and that the family had gone shopping to buy gifts.
