A new study finds women who eat two chocolate bars a week have better cardiovascular health.
The Swedish study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology finds women who the chocolate were 20 percent less likely to have a stroke than women the same age and weight who seldom or never eat chocolate.
Chocolate contains flavonoids, which are antioxidants, that help suppress oxidation of l-d-l cholesterol.
A registered dietitian at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center said to look for a minimally processed bar with at least 75-percent dark chocolate. "Just look at the ingredients the better the lower the sugar content the better and if you can find one that doesn't contain milk, that's actually better," said Registered Dietitian Kaitlin Welles.
She said milk products make it harder for your body to absorb the antioxidants.
