A new study reveals a higher risk of blood clots among pregnant women who conceive through in vitro fertilization.

Swedish researchers looked at the rates of pulmonary embolisms and blood clots in women undergoing normal and IVF pregnancies.

The proportion of IVF women diagnosed with an embolism was 4.2 in 1,000, compared to 2.5 in 1,000 of women with routine pregnancies.

Blood clots were also more common.

Researchers say the risk of both conditions was highest during the first trimester.
