Los Alamos resident Luke Branquinho widened his lead in the steer wrestling world standings after the seventh round of the National Finals Rodeo on Wednesday in Las Vegas.
The 32 year old finished second in Round 7 with a time of 3.7 seconds to earn another $14,429. Todd Suhn won with a time of 3.6 seconds.
Branquinho, the defending and three-time World Champion, upped his season total in earnings to $147,184. The race for the gold buckle is the most wide-open of any event at the NFR. Ethen Thouvenell is second, nearly $27,000 behind Branquinho.
Also on Wednesday, Paso Robles native Dugan Kelly finished sixth in the team roping competition. He earned $2,944 with his performance. He ranks 15th on the overall money list with $63,779 on the season.
