A new study explores how living in poverty can affect brain function.
Harvard researchers say dealing with extreme financial struggles is so taxing on the brain that many people find it difficult to concentrate on much else.
It can translate into about a 10-point drop in IQ.
This doesn't mean the poor are less intelligent than anyone else. It's the constant worry about how to pay for dinner, rent and transportation that taxes the brain's capacity.
