Grover Beach Police are still searching for the man they say shot a woman last night, leaving her with critical injuries.

Officers say they are looking for William Roger Forgey, of Roseville, California. They say he may be armed with a handgun.

Around 9:00 Saturday night, police say Forgey fired multiple shots at his estranged wife inside a home on the corner of 8th Street and Mentone Avenue in Grover Beach.

The woman is being treated at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for those wounds.

Police say after Forgey fired those rounds, he fled down Mentone Avenue.

Along the way, witnesses say he fired more shots at a neighbor. That person wasn't hit, but it's left the neighborhood feeling uneasy knowing Forgey hasn't been caught.

"Last night I was watching TV and then, all of a sudden, my dogs started barking," Gesenia Escheverria, of Grover Beach, said. "Then, I hear shootings and then I tried to ask my parents what it was but they said maybe it's a firework or something."

Ten year-old Gesenia tried to explain to her little brother what they were hearing.

The sounds of gunshots, the sirens and the commotion added up when she stepped out her front door to find a crime scene.

"Officers responded and found one female adult who suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her torso," Commander John Peters, of the Grover Beach Police Department, said.

But what scared Gesenia more than the activity that night, was the desertion the next morning. She says there were children living in that home.

"If the mother was seriously injured, her kids might have been worried," she said. "Or since they're little kids, they might cry. I was really nervous."

Police say the woman was critically wounded; and they consider Forgey to be armed and dangerous.

Gesenia says she hasn't seen anyone go in or out of the home since police cleaned up the scene.

Now, she's left trying to explain what the silence means.

"What if the man doesn't get caught and he goes around still shooting people?."

The Grover Beach Police Department is teaming up with multiple agencies on this investigation. They say they are looking for a 2004 silver Toyota 4runner.

Officers are calling the shooting attempted murder.
Anyone with information on Forgey's location is asked to call the Grover Beach Police Department at (805)473-4511.
