Summer vacation is in full swing and the kids are out of school.  Now may be the perfect time to think about a new cat or dog.  Here are three pets available for adoption from local animal shelters.

Jetta is a very active, 6-month old Aussie/Lab mix who loves the water and is great with other dogs.  He is very good with kids, but because of his energy level, shelter volunteers recommend him for older children.  Jetta is housetrained and loves to play ball.  He is available at the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society.

Earl Grey is a is a 2-month old, domestic shorthair.  He is currently at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Shelter and will be part of this weekends "kittenpalooza."  The SLO County animal shelter has lots of cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, and even rabbits to choose from.

And Reggie is a 2-year old, male, tabby cat.  Woods Humane Society volunteers describe him as incredibly sweet and handsome despite his "gruff looking" face.  He is the first to purr when you walk up to the cattery.  Volunteers say he is a special cat with a playful, but gentle nature and would love to be in a family with children.  He is available for a special reduced adoption rate during the month of June.

June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, so many of the local shelters have special adoption rates and incentives through the end of the month.
