Kathy Kuretich serves as co-anchor of Daybreak and a multimedia journalist for KSBY News. "I have a deep appreciation for the news industry and for the community which we serve. Telling their stories is an honor and a responsibility I don't take lightly," she said.
Kathy started her career in broadcast news at WMAQ, the NBC-owned affiliate in Chicago, Illinois where she learned invaluable skills working in the stations Investigative Unit and earning her the prestigious Peter Lisagor Award for research.
After Chicago, Kathy reported and anchored at WLUC, in Marquette, Michigan where she was awarded two Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards for outstanding reporting. Following that, she was a general assignment reporter at KOKI in Tulsa, Oklahoma before heading to California where she tried her hand at other work outside of television news. "I tried to convince myself that I could transition to another line of work and leave my life of a reporter behind, but soon discovered it's impossible," she said. "It's who I am."
Kathy came to work for KSBY in April of 2011 as a multimedia journalist. Since then, she was promoted to weekend anchor and once again promoted to Daybreak co-anchor in April of 2013.
Kathy holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia College in Chicago.
Originally from the Chicago suburbs, she enjoys visiting her family in the Midwest, but truly feels she's found her home here on the Central Coast. In January of 2013, Kathy and her husband welcomed their first child, Jack. He joins their other family member (and other baby) a rescued pitbull/pointer mix named K.C.
