Kathy Kuretich serves as a multimedia journalist for KSBY News. "I have a deep appreciation for the news industry and for the community which we serve. Bringing people together, and telling their stories is an honor and a responsibility I don't take lightly," she said.
Kathy started her career in broadcast news at WMAQ, the NBC-owned affiliate in Chicago, Illinois where she learned invaluable skills working in the stations Investigative Unit and earning her the prestigious Peter Lisagor Award for research.
After Chicago, Kathy reported and anchored at WLUC, in Maquette, Michigan and was a general assignment reporter at KOKI in Tulsa, Oklahoma before returning to California where she tried her hand at other work outside of television news. "I tried to convince myself that I could transition to another line of work and leave my life of a reporter behind, but soon discovered it's impossible," she said. "It's who I am."
Kathy holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia College in Chicago. She's volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters as well as Special Olympics. She's also passionate about animals and looks forward to finding more volunteer opportunities. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, she enjoys visiting her family in the Midwest, but truly feels she's found her home here on the Central Coast. But on her off days, she'll still be cheering on the Bulls, Bears and Cubs! She and her husband live in San Luis Obispo with their beautiful pit bull/pointer mix named K.C.
