Cuesta College considering tobacco-free campus

Posted: Updated:

Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo is considering going tobacco-free.

A recent survey found 56 percent of students are in favor of having a tobacco-free campus, while 44-percent are in favor of keeping designated smoking areas.

Thursday, they had a chance to give their opinions to the student government.

"We were actually brought the idea of being a tobacco-free campus by a doctor who came and presented to the student senate, so, it's a long process. If it were to change, that means we would have to change board policy on our smoking policy," said Scott Chedester, Cuesta College Student Body president and student trustee.

Student body officials say it could take until next year before a final decision is made and a possible new tobacco policy put in place.
