Refugio State Beach campground evacuated

Posted: Updated:
Refugio State Beach and the campground at Refugio are both closed because of the oil spill off the coast of southern Santa Barbara County.

People who had already started to set up camp for the night were told to leave.

"I'm not happy about. I really care about this stretch of coastline. It's not nice seeing this at all," said George Croton. He and his friends had been at their campsite for just about 1 1/2 hours before they were told to leave.

"It's just really, really disgusting out there," he said. "It's really sad to see that."

A warning about the spill was also posted at El Capitan Beach.

State Parks officials said campers were relocated to either El Capitan or Gaviota State Beaches and people with reservations for the upcoming weekend will be notified if they will be impacted by the oil spill.
