Crews prepare for clean up of oil spill

Posted: Updated:
Crews remained on scene overnight on Refugio State Beach, but it was a much different situation than what was taking place there Tuesday afternoon.

It got quiet around midnight. Officials had a private tactics meeting and crews set up what they could to prep for Wednesday's task of getting a handle on all the oil.

Jennifer Williams with the U.S. Coast Guard says, "We are going to look for the best way, the most environmentally-friendly way to mitigate the oil spill, to clean it up, to skim it, and to get the beach back to its prestige condition."

The Coast Guard is calling the oil spill "medium sized," but clean up will still take some time.

A cleanup company was hired with crews ready to start as early as sunrise.

Their first step: checking how far the wind pushed the spill down the coastline.
