Hunger Awareness Day is underway in SLO County

Posted: Updated:
June 5 is Hunger Awareness Day in San Luis Obispo County and marks the ninth year the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo has organized the event.

For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can provide $10 worth of food, according to organizers.

The goal is to raise $125,000 for those in need. All the donations stay local and feed more than 40,000 people who are food insecure -- mostly children and seniors. The donations help stock the shelves of the Food Bank with healthy choices from area farms.

The event kicked off at 7 a.m. Friday and will end at 7:00 p.m. There are more than 30 donation sites throughout SLO County.

This is how you can help:
