Local hospitals collect more than 1,000 boxes of cereal for hungry children

Around 1,500 boxes of cereal are heading to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County to help feed local children this summer.

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton teamed up for the cereal drive, which took place May 29 through June 5.

Hospital officials say 1,000 boxes were collected at Sierra Vista and 500 were collected at Twin Cities.

Food Bank officials say of the 44,000 San Luis Obispo County residents struggling with hunger, 40% are children.

With summer break just around the corner, organizers want to make sure these kids continue to eat healthy when they are out of school.
