Plans to restore Lompoc drive-in theatre stopped

Posted: Updated:
Plans to restore an iconic drive-in movie theatre in Lompoc have run into a wall, according to the  man who started the movement to revive it.

Chris King was told by the owners to stop the project to restore the Valley Drive-In, citing property issues as a concern.

King had a lot of community support early on.

The Facebook group he created for the project has almost 4,000 people.

King said in a statement, "When I inquired to why the sudden change, the owner informed me that it is not the right time to divulge the details, but that he would like me stop moving forward based on 'certain property issues.' This is heartbreaking news for me, and I know how devastating it must be for the community."

The property owners have requested not to be contacted for comment and have not responded to KSBY's previous requests.

There are two businesses on the property right now, a recycling center and a gardening and landscaping store.

King said both businesses would have stayed if the drive-in was restored.
