Lawsuit filed against Plains All-American on behalf of all beachfront property owners

Posted: Updated:

A Santa Barbara County woman, who lives on beachfront property near the spill site, has filed a lawsuit on behalf of all beachfront property owners, on the Pacific Coast, from the spill's origin to the southern border of San Diego County.

The lawsuit expresses concern that Plains All-American has been cited nearly 180 times, since 2006, for safety and maintenance violations.

The documents also mention that the pipeline rupture could have been avoided with an automatic shut-off valve and that the company's plan to operate without one was not an accident.

The plaintiff argues oil invaded beachfront properties, and homeowners suffered economic losses and injuries because of the spill.
