A Morro Bay man was arrested for vehicle theft and resisting arrest causing injury to an officer in Arroyo Grande Tuesday night.

The California Highway Patrol says officers tried to stop a man who was driving a stolen vehicle at around 7:00 p.m. in Arroyo Grande near Branch and Garden streets.

CHP says the driver, identified as Michael Fordyce, 31, got out of the vehicle and tried to run away through a nearby creek bed.

After an extensive search by numerous law enforcement agencies by helicopter and on foot, CHP says Fordyce was found hiding in thick brush.

An officer was also assaulted in the process of the arrest, officials say.

Fordyce was booked into the San Luis Obispo County jail and remained in custody Wednesday morning in lieu of $25,000 bond.
