Record number of trees dying off in SLO County

Posted: Updated:

As the historic drought continues, a record number of trees are dying off in San Luis Obispo County.

County officials say this year, they have removed more than 400 dead or dying trees, most of them in Cambria.

The county says at least 30 to 40 percent of the overall forest there is either dead or dying and that the epidemic levels of tree die-off create a serious fire and safety hazard to residents.

Back on October 30, Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency and linked widespread drought conditions with the deaths of tens of millions of trees across the state.
