Pismo Beach adopts building restrictions due to drought

Posted: Updated:

Due to the drought, Pismo Beach has adopted some new building restrictions, which include Shell Beach.

As of December 1, no new commercial building permits will be granted for vacant lots, nor will large housing developments be granted a permit.

As far as single family homes, a tear down will have to be "water neutral" to be granted a permit, meaning the new home will have to meet the same water usage as the previous building.

Vacant lots for single family homes are exempt from these restrictions.

Pismo Beach gets its water from Lopez Lake, the state and groundwater.

The restrictions will be re-evaluated monthly.
