Sand bag locations on the Central Coast

Forecasters are predicting a wet winter from El Niño-fueled storms and local emergency officials are urging Central Coast residents to prepare their homes and properties for potential flooding.

Those preparations may include having sand bags ready to divert flowing water. Here is a list of locations where sand and/or sand bags are available to local residents:

San Luis Obispo County
Sand is available at the following locations on a first-come, first-served basis during normal business hours:
     - Avila Beach: next to the CSD Office, 191 San Miguel St. 
     - Heritage Ranch: Cal Fire Station 33, 4820 Heritage Rd., Paso Robles
     - Los Osos (2 locations): Water District Yard, 953 El Moro; and Cal Fire Station 15, 2315 Bayview Heights Dr. (sand bags available for sale)
     - Nipomo: 148 S. Wilson St.
     - San Miguel: San Miguel Fire Station, 1150 Mission St.
     - San Simeon: Wastewater Treatment Plant, 9245 Balboa Ave.
     - Templeton: NW corner of Old County Road and 6th St.
     - Oceano: 22nd St. at Silver Spur Place
     - Santa Margarita: 22685 El Camino Real
     - Cambria (3 locations): Fire Station, 2850 Burton Dr.; Lampton Park, Lampton St. and Windsor Blvd.; and Shamel Park, Windsor Blvd. and Pembrook Dr.

Paso Robles
Sand is available at the City Streets Yard located at 1220 Paso Robles Street. Bring your own sand bags and shovel. Sand bags can be purchased at area businesses, including American Builders Supply, Lowe's, Blake's Hardware, Orchard Supply Hardware, and Farm Supply.

Atascadero
Sand is available at the following locations:
     - Fire Station 1, 6005 Lewis Ave.
     - City Corporate Yard, 8005 Gabarda Rd.
Sand bags are available for purchase at local hardware stores.

San Luis Obispo
Sand is available at the following locations when a significant rain event (2-3+ inches) is forecast:
     - City Corporation Yard parking lot, 25 Prado Road
     - Laguna Lake Golf Course parking lot, 11175 Los Osos Valley Road
     - Santa Rosa Park parking lot, 190 Santa Rosa Street
     - Sinsheimer Park parking lot, 900 Southwood Drive
Sand bags are available for purchase at area businesses, including Home Depot, Farm Supply, and Miner's Hardware.

Pismo Beach
Sand and sand bags are available at the following locations:
     - 550 Frady Lane
     - South of the basketball courts across from Beachcomber Ave.
     - Ventana Fire Station lot

Grover Beach
Sand and sand bags are available in front of the Public Works Corporation Yard located at 1150 Farroll Road. Sand bags are limited to 20 per household, and you must bring your own shovel.

Arroyo Grande
A limited number of sand bags are available for residents at the City's Corporation Yard located at 1375 Ash Street. Contact the Public Works Department at (805) 473-5460 for more information.

Santa Maria
Sand is available at the following locations:
     - Suey Crossing
     - 2000 block of Western in cul-de-sac
     - City Public Works Yard, 830 W. Cypress (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, except holidays)
     - West Carmen Lane just west of Depot Street
     - San Ysidro Street west of Miller Street
The City of Santa Maria does not provide sand bags. Santa Barbara County provides up to 25 sand bags free of charge at the Santa Maria Flood Control Shop located at 912 W. Foster Road, (805) 934-6125. Sand bags can also be purchased at area businesses, including Orchard Supply Hardware, Farm Supply, Quinn Rentals, and Pacific Soil Stabilization.

Guadalupe
Sand is available at Fire Station #2, located at 918 Obispo Street. Call (805) 356-3905 for more information.

Lompoc 
Sand is available at JM Park, located at Chestnut Avenue and A Street. You must bring your own sand bags and a shovel. Citizens are asked to limit themselves to 10 sand bags each.
A limited supply of sand and sand bags are also available at Fire Station 1, located at 115 South G Street, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sand bags are limited to 10 per resident and you must bring your own shovel. Call ahead to make an appointment at (805) 736-4513.

Santa Ynez Valley
Sand is available on the west side of the Solvang Veterans Memorial Hall parking lot at 1745 Mission Drive. A limited supply of sand bags is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bags may also be purchased at area businesses, including Nielsen's Building Materials, Valley Hardware, and Farm Supply. For more information, contact the Public Works Department at (805) 688-5575.
Sand and sand bags are also available at Santa Barbara County Fire Station #31, located at 168 W. Highway 246 in Buellton. There is a 25 bag limit per person. For more information, contact County Flood Control at (805) 568-3440.

Goleta
Sand and sand bags are available at Fire Station 11 at 6901 Frey Way, Fire Station 14 at 320 Los Carneros, and the Goleta Valley Community Center at 5679 Hollister Avenue.
Sand and sand bags are available on a first-come, first-served basis and bags are limited to 20 per person. The locations are open during daylight hours, seven days a week. You should bring your own shovel to fill the bags. For additional questions, call (805) 961-7500. To receive emergency alerts from the City of Goleta, text "GOLETA EMERGENCY" to 468311.

Santa Barbara 
Sand and sand bags are available to residents at the City of Santa Barbara Corporate Annex Yard, located at 401 East Yanonali Street, when a "Flash Flood Watch" is issued by the National Weather Service. City officials will announce the hours of operation when the Sandbag Station is open. Residents should bring their own shovels. Sand bags are limited to 20 per trip.
Sand and sand bags are also available from the county through April 2016 at the Santa Barbara Flood Control Shop located at 4568 Calle Real. There is a 25 bag limit. For more information, call County Flood Control at (805) 568-3440.

Carpinteria
Sand and sand bags are available at the Public Works Yard located at 5775 Carpinteria Avenue, Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and on Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. There is a 20 bag per household limit.
