A drought-stricken pine tree that had to be cut down is now giving a spiritual lift to parishioners in Modesto, California.

The tree, which soared next to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, is believed to be about 39-years old, but it's branches were starting to endanger the church's roof.

When it was cut down, the image of a flowing, simple cross was discovered in one section of the trunk.

Workers immediately worked to save the trunk by applying a protective coating on it's surface.

It is now residing in the church foyer.

Daytime highs for the interior valleys are backing off from triple digits on Monday. Temperatures for California Valley and Shandon will get close to 100 degrees on Monday, but right now daytime highs will range from the upper 80s to upper 90s. High pressure over the area is moving to the east, which is allowing for those interior valleys to cool down this week. However, with extremely dry live and dead fuel paired with gusty onshore winds, fire weather danger remains to be of concern...

We badly need rainfall here on the Central Coast after last winter's dismal performance with many locations getting 50% or less of average rainfall.  Our rain season ends on the 30th with a new season beginning Monday.  So, technically speaking the rain possibility we are talking about wouldn't actually help our current season but rather help the next.  That said the rain chances are interesting.  The two major computer models both like some type of rain next week....
