Former Cayucos firefighter on trial for rape

The trial of a former Cayucos firefighter accused of rape and human trafficking is underway in San Luis Obispo Thursday, he faced some women from his past who took the stand and say they too were his victims.

40 year old Oscar Higueros Jr. was arrested in August of 2014 on accusations he raped a Los Osos teen at his home. 

This is the same teen involved in the human trafficking case involving Richard Brooks, a Bay Area man convicted and now sentenced to over 60 years to life in prison in that case.  

According to testimony in Brooks' trial, Higueros met the 17 year old when Brooks pimped her out through a Craigslist ad.

Thursday in court, two other alleged victims took the stand.  

One claims Higueros took his pants off in front of her without her consent more than a dozen years ago.   Then 16 year old, who is now 30 years old, explained on the stand how Higueros approached her at the beach in Morro Bay, and after several months of conversation, she willingly went to his Morro Bay home. 

That is where the 30 year old remembers feeling cornered into his bedroom and feared he would be violent if she resisted him while he forced her into oral copulation.  

The other witness who is now 35 years old, recalled how in 2004 she and Higueros were in an on again off again relationship. 

She says when she had another boyfriend, Higueros came to her home to be with her one last time, although she says she refused and cried while he had sex with her. 

April testified she did make a rape report to police at that time.  However, months later, she wrote a letter to the Cayucos Fire Department stating Higueros did not rape her, and she was upset because he never would settle down with her. 

Both women were emotional at times during their testimony.  During cross examination, the defense attorney questioned their statements whether their relationships with Higueros were consensual.  These eyewitness accounts are from 2002 to 2004. 

Throughout the trial, the jurors could hear from up to six other women who claim they are victims.   This includes, the Los Osos teen, who lived with Higueros for a month and he allegedly made her his sex slave.
