The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office has released a photo of a man wanted for attempted murder who deputies say slipped away from a Paso Robles Motel 6 before they were able to find him Friday.

Authorities have been looking for Richard Anthony Rodriguez, 30, since earlier this week, when Rodriguez allegedly pulled up alongside his ex-girlfriend in Nipomo and shot at her with a gun. She was not hurt.

Rodriguez is described as 5'9" and 205 lbs with black hair. He has a large "805" tattoo on the front of his neck. He is described as armed and dangerous.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office said Rodriguez's vehicle was located at the Motel 6 on the 1100 block of Black Oak Drive early Friday morning, and Rodriguez was positively identified at the motel, however he somehow slipped away before deputies were able to set up a perimeter.

The deputies believed Rodriguez was still in the motel when its Special Enforcement Detail Team responded, Sheriff's spokesman Tony Cipolla said Friday afternoon. That led to hours of law enforcement activity related to what deputies believed was a situation in which Rodriguez had barricaded himself inside a room at the motel.

Once a Sheriff's Office robot finally entered the motel room Friday afternoon, Cipolla says no one was inside.

The sheriff's office says it has received numerous tips about where Rodriguez may be and are working to locate him. In the meantime, they've issued the photo and information seen here, and urge that you not contact Rodriguez if you see him, but call 911.
