Bail set at $500,000 for attempted murder suspect

Posted: Updated:

On Tuesday evening, attempted murder suspect Richard Anthony Rodriguez remained behind bars at the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $500,000.

Rodriguez was arrested and booked into jail on Monday, February 29, after a traffic stop in Arroyo Grande.

Authorities had been on the lookout for Rodriguez since February 17, when San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's officials said he fired a shot at a car full of women in Nipomo. Sheriff's officials believed they had him surrounded at a motel in Paso Robles on February 19, but when officers entered the room, he was no longer inside.

Sheriff's officials issued a "Be On the Lookout" for Rodriguez to other law enforcement and released a previous mugshot of him to the media. Rodriguez looked markedly different from that mugshot when he was booked into jail on Monday. He had multiple new tattoos, including one that partially covered a large "805" tattoo on his neck. Sheriff's officials could not say whether Rodriguez got the tattoos in an attempt to disguise himself.

Rodriguez faces a charge of attempted murder and a probation violation.
