Foodie Friday: Taste of Solvang

For Foodie Friday, the Daybreak team will preview the Taste of Solvang with Chef Steven Snook, Executive Chef, and Jonathan Rosenson, Sommelier/GM, of Solvang's First & Oak restaurant.

Solvang's annual food and wine - and now, beer and spirits - destination event, Taste of Solvang, celebrates its 24th year from March 16-20, 2016.

The event draws over a 1,500 people to experience farm-to-table fine dining, New American and modern Danish fare, sweets in all forms, and award-winning beers, spirits and world-class wines.

Watch Daybreak from 5-7:00 a.m. Fri., March 11 to meet the chefs and watch a live cooking demo.

Taste of Solvang schedule:

Farmers Market Chef Walk -- Wed., March 16 3:00 p.m.

"St. Patrick's Day" Dinner -- Thursday, March 17; 6:00 p.m.

Industrial Eats An exclusive St. Patrick's Day dinner experience hosted by Chef/Owners Jeff and Janet Olsson.

Taste of Solvang Blind Tasting Challenge -- Thursday, March 17; 6:00 p.m.

Wandering Dog Wine Bar Guests will challenge their palates while learning more about wine, as they match up varietals, regions, alcohol percentage, vintage and price points, to each of four red wines.

Opening Night Sip + Savor -- Fri., March 18, 7-9:00 p.m. at Solvang Veterans Memorial Hall

The Art of Smørrebrød and Æbleskiver -- Saturday, March 19; 11:00 a.m.

Solvang Veterans Memorial Hall: In this informal class, led by three descendants of original Solvang families, students will learn the history of Smørrebrød (Danish open-faced sandwiches) and Æbleskiver, and how to properly create both iconic, Danish delights. Class includes cooking demonstration, recipes and tastings, and a glass of wine or a non-alcoholic beverage. Limited to 24 attendees.

"Tasting Trail" -- Saturday, March 19; 11:00 AM-4:00 p.m.

Roaming food + shopping event, 30+ edible sampling and shopping stops throughout Solvang. The 2016 Tasting Trail will overlap in hours with this year's Solvang Wine & Beer Walk, so attendees may simultaneously take part in both food and drink activities. Free admission for Tasting Trail ticket holders, at the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, the Elverhoj Museum of History & Art, and the Wildling Museum.

Taste of Solvang Wine & Beer Walk -- Saturday, March 19 (2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.) and Sunday, March 20 (12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.)

A passport event, this is a two-day stroll through Solvang featuring 15+ wine & beer tasting spots. The 2016 Taste of Solvang Wine & Beer Walk will feature an earlier Saturday start-time 2:00 p.m., providing guests with more tasting hours. (Must be 21 and over to participate in the Wine & Beer Walk.)

Buttonwood Farm Winemaker Dinner -- Saturday, March 19; 6:00 p.m.

Buttonwood Farm Winery  Join Buttonwood Farm Winery winemaker, Karen Steinwachs, in Buttonwood's beautiful garden area, for a locally-sourced, gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Conrad Gonzales of the California Central Coast's Valle Fresh Catering. Five-course dinner comprised of seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients - including some from Buttonwood's own farm - paired with Buttonwood's estate-grown wines.

Bubbles, Brews & Brunch -- Sunday, March 20; 10:00 AM-1:00 PM; Solvang Veterans Memorial Hall: Breakfast-seekers are invited to wander in for live music and a buffet brunch to include egg dishes, Danish sausage, a Biscuit Bar, Solvang's famous Danish pastries, a Bloody Mary Bar, Mimosa Bar, beer and bubbles tasting stations. A "Premium" Brunch experience will include "bottomless" Bloody Marys and Mimosas.

Coquelicot Organic Estate New Release Dinner -- Sun., March 20 6:30 p.m. at First & Oak Restaurant.
