San Luis Obispo International Film Festival kicks off "Surf Nite" with a monster wave documentary

Posted: Updated:

One of the yearly highlights of the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival is "Surf Nite." This year, there's a screening of a monster film about monster waves anchoring the evening.

"Ocean Driven" is a documentary about big wave surfer Chris Bertish and his experience back in 2010 at Maverick's, a famous surf break south of San Francisco.

The day of that event, Bertish tackled some of the biggest waves ever seen in a surfing competition, waves that were several stories high.

Bertish will be on the red carpet, along with the filmmakers, Nadia Tarow, of Santa Cruz and Adrian Charles of South Africa, for the screening at the Fremont Theatre in downtown San Luis Obispo on Friday.

After the screening, Bertish and Maverick's pioneer Jeff Clark will talk about that epic day and the filming of "Ocean Driven."
