Plans to build a new homeless center in San Luis Obispo are moving forward with help from a huge donation.

An anonymous donor has donated $250,000 and is challenging the community to help the 40 Prado Homeless Services Center reach its goal.

The new project would replace the Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter and Prado Day Center with a facility that combines the services of both buildings.

With about $750,000 left to be raised on the original $5.4 million effort, Prado officials say they expect to break ground in the fall.

The anonymous donor will match all community contributions dollar-for-dollar to reach a total of $500,000.
