Senior Farmers Market supplies seniors with fresh produce

Posted: Updated:

The SLO Food Bank is preparing for one of its biggest fundraisers of the year.
Next Friday, June 3, is Hunger Awareness Day. The Food Bank hopes to raise $135,000 in one day to help feed those in the county who are struggling with hunger.
That often includes seniors, so the Food Bank offers a program called Senior Farmers Market. Food Bank workers travel to senior centers across the county, offering residents fresh fruits and vegetables.

"It's just a farmers market style distribution, just like your normal farmers markets you have down in San Luis Obispo. We're trying to do something like that for the seniors," said Dylan Fraser, SLO Food Bank Warehouse Inventory Clerk.

The Senior Farmers Market visited a center in Paso Robles on Tuesday.

"I think it's great because there are so many people that just need the extra help. They go to the grocery store and they've got a limited income and I think it's great," said senior Mary Blohm. "It's a good program, it's a healthy program, because it's only good stuff."
