Plains All American Pipeline reps and employee appear in court

Posted: Updated:

Representatives for Plains All American Pipeline and one of its employees appeared in a Santa Barbara courtroom on Thursday.

The pipeline company and employee James Buchanan face dozens of criminal charges related to last year's oil spill at Refugio State Beach.

In May of 2015, a Plains pipeline ruptured, spilling 140,000 gallons of crude oil. Much of it flowed to the ocean, killing about 300 birds and marine mammals.

Neither Plains nor Buchanan entered pleas Thursday. Their attorneys requested their arraignment be continued to the end of the month.
