Over $10,000 in scholarships given to San Luis Obispo County students

More than $10,000 in scholarships was recently awarded to local youth.

The California Women for Agriculture San Luis Obispo County chapter awarded 25 local youth with scholarships to assist with college fees and their 4-H and FFA animal projects for the annual Mid-State Fair.

The scholarships given out this year included: beef, poultry, swine, and sheep scholarships.

“We are working to promote a strong agriculture industry in San Luis Obispo County,” said Kamee Knutson, CWA Chapter President.  “Our programs throughout the year raise funds for or scholarship program.  I am proud of our chapter for reaching this milestone and achieving new level of funding to support so many young agriculturists.”

CWA offers two scholarship programs- a 4-H and FFA Project Scholarship Program and a Collegiate Scholarship Program.

    Body remains of one of the three missing people in the Montecito mudslides was found Saturday night, according to the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office.  The sheriff's office says the remains of 28-year-old Faviola Benitez Calderon of Montecito was found 100 block of Santo Tomas Lane near Olive Mill Road and above Coast Village Road..  Deputies say the body was found by the Human Remains Detection dog team.  Her family has been notified.   The sheriff's office ma...
