Local Spotlight: "Key Largo" Bogie & Bacall Free Summer Cinema

Posted: Updated:

As the Summer winds down, some of us get nostalgic and wonder what happened to the time, but there is still time for a great evening under the stars in a fantastic setting and a classic film from Hollywood's golden age.

Off the coast of Florida, "Key Largo" is the spot where a disillusioned war vet, Frank McCloud (played by Humphrey Bogart), goes to meet the wife of his deceased army buddy.

But when McCloud arrives, he finds her (played by Lauren Bacall) and the rest of the residents of a broken-down hotel, held hostage by gangster Johnny Rocco (Edward G. Robinson).

"Key Largo" is a film noir masterpiece that was directed by John Huston in 1948 and focuses on the simmering tension between its characters and you can catch it Friday night at 8:30 at the county courthouse in Santa Barbara.

The screening is sponsored by UCSB Arts and Lectures.

It's free and you're welcome to bring blankets, and low-rise beach chairs.
