Officials have identified the Lompoc couple killed in a head-on crash near the Lompoc Federal Correctional Institution Sunday afternoon as Bertha Betancourt, 57, and Ruben Betancourt, 51.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Dodge Challenger and Honda Accord collided head-on shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Santa Lucia Canyon Road just north of the prison entrance.

Two others were injured in the crash, including the Betancourt's 31-year-old son, Juan, according to a gofundme account set up to help with funeral expenses for the Betancourt family. The other person injured was a man vacationing from Georgia, according to officials at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Additional details about the crash were not released due to the ongoing investigation, which is being led by 30th Space Wing Security Forces and Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

According to the gofundme account, Ruben and Bertha leave behind two sons, two daughters, three grandsons and two granddaughters and "family was their number one priority."
